Wait: doesn’t spring begin on March 21st? Yes, but remember this is a leap year, so by any other year’s measure today is March 21st. Still, it seems that this spring equinox is unusually early even for a leap year: the earliest since 1896! It all gets back to that pesky problem that leap year is meant to solve: that our annual voyage around the sun takes a fraction of a day longer than 365 days. Read all about it at this site here.
