This shopping cart of pomegranates outside the entrance to the Berkeley Bowl is just the overflow from the huge bin of them to the right … a stark contrast to ANY of the grocery stores I’ve so far found in Pasadena (including Whole Foods, the downtown Pasadena version of which is supposed to be the largest on the west coast) with anything like the produce offerings (in terms of quantity, variety, and … a criterion I’ve realized I don’t even usually think about: freshness) of “even” the Lopez Village Market or the Union Square farmers’ market in NYC — let alone the Berkeley Bowl. It’s truly shocking … what’s going on here? hmmm …
